Students in the Remsenburg-Speonk Elementary School Broadcasting Club recently took their talents on the road, visiting Westhampton Beach High School for an immersive, hands-on experience inside a professional-style student television studio.

Accompanied by teacher and advisors Mrs. Bongiovi and Mr. Hudson, the RSE students were welcomed by Hurricane Watch, the high school’s student-run TV production team. The visit provided elementary students with a unique opportunity to see firsthand what the next level of student media looks like.

During the tour, students explored the TV studio, learned about production equipment and workflows, and collaborated directly with high school broadcasters, including Mrs. Mett and her students. The experience quickly turned interactive, as RSE students stepped in front of and behind the camera to help film their own segment.

The visit also featured meaningful connections to the district's past and future. RSE students conducted hallway interviews with current Westhampton Beach students, including several RSE alumni, gaining insight into the high school experience. They also sat down for in-depth conversations with this year’s top academic honorees, valedictorian Brady Schultz and salutatorian Maiya Boughal, both proud RSE graduates.

The day highlighted not only the technical side of broadcasting but also the strong sense of community that connects students across grade levels. By working alongside experienced student journalists and reconnecting with alumni, RSE students gained confidence, inspiration, and a clearer vision of what lies ahead.

The collaboration underscored the district’s commitment to providing authentic, real-world learning experiences and fostering student voice through media. With opportunities like this, the pipeline of young storytellers continues to grow stronger.

Special thanks were extended to the Hurricane Watch team, all Westhampton Beach students who welcomed and supported the visiting broadcasters, and the RSE students who participated throughout the day.

The future of student media is already taking shape ... and it’s bright in Hurricane Nation.
