Two standout members of the Remsenburg-Speonk Union Free School District were recognized for their dedication and service at the SCOPE “Shining Above the Rest” Awards Evening, held at Villa Lombardi.

Rich Aulet and Janeen Haley LaCorte were honored among the region’s top educators and staff, highlighting their lasting impact on the school community.

“It was a humbling honor to recognize two individuals who truly represent the heart, compassion, and excellence of the Remsenburg-Speonk school community,” said Superintendent Denise Sullivan.

Aulet, the district’s Director of Technology, received the Support Staff Award. Since joining RSE in 2019, he has played a critical role in maintaining and advancing the district’s technological infrastructure. Known for his problem-solving skills and approachable demeanor, Aulet quickly proved indispensable, particularly during challenging moments.

Within his first 30 days on the job, the district faced a ransomware attack, followed shortly by the transition to remote learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. Through it all, Aulet remained a steady and reliable presence, working tirelessly to ensure uninterrupted instruction and consistent support for both staff and students.
His dedication extends beyond the workday, as he is known for being available at all hours to assist with any issue. Aulet was joined at the ceremony by his sister, Michelle Leigh, also an educator.

LaCorte, a special education teacher, was honored with the Teacher Service Award for her extraordinary commitment to her students. Widely respected for her compassion and leadership, she goes above and beyond to meet the needs of every child she serves.

Whether providing essential resources such as food and clothing or offering hands-on academic and emotional support, LaCorte ensures that every student feels valued and supported. Her work is guided by a strong moral compass and a deep belief in helping students reach their full potential.

No challenge is too great, and no student is ever turned away. Her impact extends far beyond the classroom, shaping her students' lives in meaningful and lasting ways.

LaCorte was joined by her daughter, Grace, who proudly watched as her mother received the honor.
The evening served as a celebration of excellence in education, with Aulet and LaCorte representing the very best of the Remsenburg-Speonk school community.
