Events on Friday

Parents and Guardians,

I want to take a moment to reflect on the events that took place in and around our school district on Friday. We began the day with partial power outages in our building due to an accident on South Country Road. Shortly after the students arrived, we experienced a brief complete power loss. Our cafeteria had no power to the ovens which created challenges for breakfast and lunch service. Throughout this time, I remained in communication with our School Resource Officer, who provided updates on the situation at the accident site, where PSEG was actively working to restore power.

Additionally, we became aware of a bomb threat that was called into Westhampton Beach. I know that those of you with children in middle and high school were receiving real-time updates from Westhampton Beach. Please know that throughout the day, I was in direct communication with the Southampton Town Police Department, who assured us that these incidents had no impact on our school or its operations.

I sincerely appreciate the trust you place in our school’s systems and protocols, which are designed to ensure the safety of our students and staff. As with any situation—whether it be an unplanned event or a scheduled drill—our Crisis Team evaluates our practices and protocols. We will meet next week to review and reflect on the day’s events, evaluate our procedures, and determine if any adjustments are necessary.

The health and safety of our students continues to be our number one priority and we appreciate your cooperation in keeping our schools and students safe.  I hope that you are able to enjoy some peace and quiet with your family this weekend.

Sincerely,

Denise Sullivan

Superintendent of Schools
